Reducing wear in a shipping terminal’s rubber tire gantries
CASE
STUDY

A shipping terminal was having cable wear issues due to all-plastic crossbars used on the cable management system installed on their rubber tire gantries (RTGs). They were also having difficulties keeping track of spare parts and stock items in their maintenance stores.

KabelSchlepp’s Varitrak MC series “hybrid” carrier system uses our “RMS” wide aluminum crossbars to reduce the wear on cables and hoses, because of the lower coefficient of friction of aluminum on cable and hose jackets versus plastic frame stays. The bolted-in design of our frame stays also gives our cavity/box the extra strength needed in this demanding application. In addition, we set up a full stocking program to manage their spare parts in the stores department, reducing the lead time on components when they brought the RTGs in for regular scheduled maintenance.
